This partition of wicked-styles.com was created to document various thoughts from my experiences in the information technology field. This is a collection of technical articles as well as random opinions I've wanted to get off my chest.

I've been in the industry for about 10 years doing mostly systems / network administration. I currently work at a company that hosts an internal integrations lab facility dealing with a wide variety of hardware and software solutions. My title is Glorified Button Pusher. I do a lot of pushing. Since this covers many different subject areas (Active Directory, Linux, Cisco networking, etc.), I've become a highly-technical generalist. In other words, I got a handle on it all, and I'm superb at nothing, thankyouverymuch. I'm a Windows admin at heart, but I also use OpenBSD and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. My wireless network uses 802.1X (none of that sissy "pre-shared key" stuff). I'm almost always in front of my computer. WSUS patches my home Windows network. My personal Exchange Server has approximately one mailbox. I try to virtualize it all.

But I'm not a geek. Trust me. I'm just not good enough.

My first computer was a 386/DX with a whopping 32 MB of memory running DOS 4.0. I was the cool kid on the block for a few weeks because Doom 1.1 ran on my machine. I eventually upgraded to DOS 5.0 » DOS 6.22 » Windows 3.1 » 3.11, then I installed Trumpet Winsock and fiddled with that Netscape Navigator thing. I had a GeoCities page. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.

I like ThinkPads a lot. I can't afford one. I just like 'em. Black never goes out of style.

Like anyone else who has done his share of IT work, I've developed some ideas and opinions which others may find useful. Since I do plenty of documentation at work, I've developed a habit of writing things down before it leaves the limited confines of my available memory (this is about 640k ... I couldn't afford MemMaker).

The articles covering technical material should be taken with a grain of salt like everything else on the Internet. Remember, I'm not an subject matter expert on anything. Writing just makes me feel more important than I really am.

My opinionated stuff is in the ramblings section and I make no warranties as to their correctness. Anyone who has had to implement / maintain network infrastructures will have some colorful stories to tell. This isn't quite family-oriented material. You must be 18 years or older to continue. Feel free to provide your credit card number if you want. I need to eat.

There's also a section on some random (technology-related) stuff I find interesting. You know, like this multi-touch system. Santa better deliver on his word this year.

This site is not an interactive blog. It is not a forum. It's a place for me to perform memory dumps. I'll write the articles as free time permits. I'm real, real busy these days. If you discover any technical inaccuracies, please contact me based on the information in the "contact" section.
